Illness as Zen * 8/7/14

Illness is its own Zen,
seeking your compliance.
Sleep with your healer,
even if you think it's not you.
For healing has no destiny,
no relief point to hang upon.
And health has no permanent residence.
Disease is a wholeness system response.
We have the prejudice of choice.
We promote being on the outside
to ourselves,
play to an audience alert mostly
to the nuances of suffering.
We concur upon the philosophical
implications of pain
as physical diatribes.
We engage in a notion of savior.
We expound belief as demands
for results.
We mandate sensory claims.
Our lives are a beaded string
of traumatic events,
showing us, bead after bead,
the illusoriness
of the string we imagine to follow.
Insight sheds from itself,
unraveling the impress
of unknown fetal stress.
Yet wellness is a flock of ambience,
grazing on calmly,
in the mind of us as the shepherd . . .
