a cosmetic line of knowing * 8/13/14

Remember ceremoniously putting on
the wedding rings grown and blessed
by the tall trees from their own years in the making?
Remember slowly parting your thighs
to the tender luminscent touch
of the moon's soft but insistent breath of light?
Remember laying your bare head
trustfully on the stomach of the earth?
For now, we have to bargain
for intimacy with nature.
We have bought into the concept
of polished diamonds as valuable!
We believe in our naming everything
as if all is on display.
The manipulation of chemistry
is now, our conscious way of life.
Our future as humans on planet Earth
is coming full circle.
We need to remember also
what seems to remain nameless.
Before we were an enlightened species
the forest spoke to the wolf,
and the wolf to the forest,
and all others amongst themsleves.
We do not have those kinds of dialogues
with nature in response.
We only listen
to our talented self-conscious ways.
Before now, authenticity
had the bleed of a rich vibrant darkness,
an enormity budding yet it awaits,
the embrace of diversity in chorus,
the lush of the unexpected,
the majesty of these meetings in manifest
and the reciprocities with nature
we so desparately need.
With now, we only cope with knowing,
like claiming to own the silverware
far away from its table of usage,
and further fashioning
our care for existence
as through this, a cosmetic kind of knowing . . .
