Duplicitous gets a bad rap

Duplicitous, despite the bad rap,

lives on.

Actually thrives,

somewhat out of sight.

It is something like a Candida

but more widespread

with symptoms

everyone can possess.

It is no crime or ill gotten disease.

It is part and parcel

of everyone’s coping method.

It is part of

the consciousness equation,

along the conveyor belt

of random thoughts

that surface and pass.

Some people have skills with it,

others, an absentmindedness.

Some have method and purpose,

while others are guarded

with it to excess.

Some even gifted and possessed,

while others feature a religion fervor

in denial of its presence.

If you say that “everyone has to lie”,

that is cause for some

to pause and deliberately ponder

but if they deliberate

and a defining act

is not speech but thought,

then duplicitous gains free entry

into the discussion.

Now if duplicitous

is in the same category as lying

then a curious mind is the culprit.

For in a vast field

of paradox as part of the journey,

the general discovery

of the basis of paradox’s rules

is the trial and error of finding way.

Duplicitous is playing hide and seek

while everyone else

seems to be playing

validate me for real.

Sure multitasking has taken a stance.

It is for the skilled and adventurous.

It can be defended

by successful action

but duplicitous is a covert worker

for the unseen force.

No one will say it.

No one will claim it outright.

But duplicitous is a skill set

not for the morally over-endowed

or the faint of publicized heart.

Duplicitous has a bad rep

and gets a bad rap.

Duplicitous is the living

of the life of means.

Anyone who swears off duplicitous

is seriously lying

and living unconsciously

in their own self-deniable truth.

Anyone who says they are not

in the least duplicitous

has ventured into

the verbal journey

of heresy to hearsay.

Because back at the origin

of cognitive awareness,

duplicitous is hard at work . . .
