Mind full of residence (4)

part four:

retention masks it all

As the retentive mind matures,

there are these sidebars

of discovery to be realized;

when has “problematic”

as a mind style

become a self-sting operation,

when has meaning

as a mind sense

become a vanity,

and when has understanding

been realized

as a self-amnesty

that can mask it all

since neither method

or task or result is suspect

or open to the scrutiny

of “upon further review”.

It is a tight package

in the process of being

packed tightly to the yawn

of daily applause.

The outer world-speak

affirms it so.

It is an exile full of false intimacies

as retentive minds speak

and are spoken to in return.

A qualified aggregate

of lip services

as enablers and providers

performed before our eyes.

The retentive mind

has a professional status

by design.

Call it chemistry or conditioning,

or eventually call it a dis-ease.

It is a mis-use,

an over-proportion,

an out-of-scale,

a slight of mind

yet out of sight except by use.

Oh when did constant diligence

become a crime?

And when did exactness

become a method of extreme?

So when did re-introduction

to almost anything

become an act

and then so much obscene?

When?

When by convention

and then incessancy

has mental retention

been overly promoted

and positively decreed.

When, in the course

of culture and circumstance,

has a retentive mind anointed

a moment sacred,

when in the presence

of self and spirit

does a retentive mind

not give way,

and when in the consciousness

of they, as human beings

did their retentive mind give back?

Give back,

so to speak,

but not as retort,

or reply, or response.

Give back as radiance,

an unceasing radiance

that is given

from within and beyond.

Beyond what is sensed,

surmised, summarized,

or self-consciously controlled.

That it would be more

of a “retention of awe”

as a backdrop

for both given and received.

A “retention of be”

without excess

of surface or linear needs,

a retention

as if mind were the ease

of gift,

of chalice,

and of the oneness

from afar.
