Large eyes

living with large eyes . . .

not knowing the affects upon others

not knowing

how they are perceived

though sometimes seen as stark

and possibly even disconcerting

these large protruding eyes

that oversee

that thoroughly peruse

that seem to suggest the workings

of a larger brain in attention

impending

with that pronouncement of focus

brought to bear by eye witnessing

just the sheer stare weight

of this focused attentiveness

looming invasive and exposing

posing as an element of center stage

to realize that the spotlight is on

accountability is soon to follow

an intimate celebrity status welling

yet vacant and undisclosed

do they ever blink?

so reminding me of scary creatures

larger than life-size animals

captives at the face zoo

who cast their ex-ray views

in a prolonged recognition statement

but yet in unclaimed ways

for if their presentation

were more a natural glimpse

and less than a studied glance

as in their response to look at all

there would be less consequences

forthcoming from that initial scrutiny

from those large weighty eyes

looking out towards this way

staring wells that feel like glaring

with that blunt studied-ness

that cast that comes pouring through

from their piercing mindful deeps

for behind those large peering eyes

whatever that species might be

even my own

even looking in the mirror

and wondering . . .

what would it be like to live

with unobtrusively large eyes
