The lacework of recurrence

this lacework of recurrence

as if it were

a safety net over doubt

habitual refrains

from a second voice within

a consolation tune

sung in false harmony

it could be like

high school songs remembered

the lyrics are strong

as resurfaced memory

then the melody comes in

almost lament fashion

it comes through without question

and identifies itself with me

for then

it is a superficial thing

like a tune you vacantly hear

in the morning of your life

and can’t get it out of your mind

for the rest of your life

you hum it

until sometimes it becomes a mutter

and on the rare occasions

it resurfaces as an outright song

you hear yourself sing and realize

I too can hear those type songs

but they were from passing times

times spent idly filling those days

songs from the chain gangs

of growing up

captive to a culture and circumstance

part of the shuffle on of life for then

part of the hapless life sentence

somehow obliged

duty bound towards parents

in their unconsciousness

and their projection of wishes

but at some point

a deeper time frame arose

something with teeth

and a soul smile

you have been there

I have been there

we are from there

even though that there

is but a reference point

far from

its full-fledged reality presence

but never the less a there

that is home

once awoke . . .

never far from home

give yourself a reframe

in every kibitz occurrence

offer yourself

a third voice of perfect pitch

a melody

that usurps the containment lament

that sings the fog of isolation away

a calling

that calls out

by calling home

there are deeper wells and canyons

available to song

our tuning forks

are always ready to play

strongly off each other

our lives are that hum . . .

love

is this music

sung together

recurrences provide

that sheet music status

for melodies to come . . .
