Addicted to rhythm

the nervous system bathing

in reverberations from the beat

secretly a heartbeat of up-sweep excitement

overcoming an otherwise quiet that abounds

the initial emphatic marking of pace

by mock-demonstrating its repetition

with flex and relax in a rapture of sways

an infusion of focus extended

bearing down with the body

on the g-force of that reversal and swing

repetitiously the intense muscular snap

into a sudden of stillness

then a blood-flooding phantom of relief

the quick rat-at-tat-tat dicing of carrots

followed by the still-moot of a dipping cream

addicted to rhythm

the edit of precise gestures into motion

towards an expression of joyous extremes

the humming bird’s baseline blur-flutter

loosing focus to its motionless floating in space

the mix beats of a four-appendage drummer attack

double daring your body to up-keep in response

the warning wake up roar of a dragster’s fumes

staring at a quarter start a single tree light away

the body’s flip switch embedded deep inside

activated from stress to non-stress

in a recycled repeatable procession

this restless leg syndrome

basking in a home of external fanfare and disguise

addicted to rhythm

a radio station of endless syncopated mix and combine

frenetic enough to not identify any of the words

endless impulsive go-aheads towards action

from the boundless pool of cool-down reserves

drum-lines boldly assaulting silence

with a sizzling juice of auditory displays

breath fighting off exhaustion

within deeper and deeper inhale refrains

a crescendo of sexual motions

timely escorted by an unresolved chorus of sounds

working towards an eventual auditory accord

five gallon buckets loosing their carrier status

inverted into drumming’s upbeat busy hands

just before the render is buzzing

addicted to rhythm:

the pound of it

the pronounce of it

deep within the resound of it . . .

addicted to rhythm
